This is the best way to bake a pie crust. It’s a good combination of flour and water. The dough has a nice, sticky texture.

Crust Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

For a traditional pie crust, start by measuring out the flour and salt. Then, mix the dry ingredients together and add the wet ingredients in small batches, until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cut the dough into small pieces. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 1/8-inch thick. Cut the dough into 10-inch squares.

Once the dough has settled

I use the same method for all of my crusts and the results are always great. First, you want to get the dough out of the fridge and onto a floured surface. Then, using your hands, roll the dough into a long, thin rectangle. This is called a “round” or “dough” shape. If you want to make a flatter pie crust, try rolling the dough in a spiral motion.
